Poetry must be in the range of 20 lines or less. Prose is considered up to 1,500 words. The TSJ editorial board strongly advises writers to submit work which allows readers to find what Own Barfield called “interior significance” and “a felt change of consciousness” – writing that is meaningful, revelatory and efficient while taking risks.
Payment is 50 cents per line for poetry and “about” $10 per 500 words for prose (”about” means that if your submission is 1,140 words, for example, you will be paid $20.) Simultaneous submissions are considered; we would appreciate prompt notice if your submission is picked up somewhere else.
Submissions must be previously unpublished. First North American rights and electronic rights are purchased. Submissions only via email in rich text format or in the body of the email, to submissions@writingindepth.com. PLEASE NOTE: submissions that do not have both the genre and title in the subject line of the email will not be read, nor will notice be given. Please send as many submissions as you want, but send each in a separate email, including poetry. We prefer to have five emails from you than one email with five attachments, for example.
