Tales from the Raven

I just heard that James Maxey’s story, Silent as the Dust, has been included in the Fantasy: Best of the Year 2009 anthology edited by Rich Horton.  The full table of contents are here, and I also note that Patrick Rothfuss has a story inclusion, among others.  Congrats, guys!  Very cool beans.

Silent as the Dust was significant to me, and stands out in my mind as one of the best shorts I’ve ever read.  It’s not just the characters, situation, etc., the strength of the story is also in how well the various elements are brought together and presented.  The package as a whole performing well the task it was intended to fulfill, if you will.

In other news I’ve added Jeff Draper’s Scriptorious Rex blog to the roll.  As both a writer and, for lack of a better term, a fighter, I particularly enjoyed his blog titled Fighters Fight.  Welcome, Jeff!
