Ducking into the New House
We closed on our new property approximately a week ago, and have started the planned painting, etc. which the slow market has made possible by dint of leaving us the proud owners of two houses.
All around the new place are these giant hardwood trees, and when we pull up I feel my soul expand into the space. Then we go inside the house, which is an old-fashioned ranch, and I squeeze back down into my usual cramped quarters. Maybe it’s the trees, or maybe it’s the fact that our current home (the ‘old’ house) has no ceiling shorter than 9′ and most 10 or 11, but I can’t rid myself of the feeling that I’m going to rip the roof off if I stand up properly.
I’m sure the feeling will pass. And, if not, you’ll be able to pick me out by the crook in my back and the splinters in my hair.
